Restoring Dignity. Rebuilding Lives. Empowering Communities.

Empowering Widows, Girls, & Communities in Kenya.

Bella Rafiki Foundation is dedicated to uplifting the lives of underprivileged individuals, women living with HIV, and single mothers through education, gender equality, and sustainable livelihood programs.

What We’re Working On

Economic Empowerment
From Handouts to Hand-Ups

We provide micro-enterprise training, seed capital, and financial literacy programs. We help widows and single mothers launch sustainable small businesses, ensuring they can provide for their families with pride and independence

01

Girls’ Education & Mentorship
Breaking the Cycle

Poverty should never end a girl’s education. We sponsor school fees, provide sanitary supplies, and offer mentorship to young girls, empowering them to stay in school, dream big, and become the next generation of female leaders.

02

Health, Dignity & HIV Support
Living Beyond Stigma

We champion the rights and well-being of people living with HIV. Through community support groups, health advocacy, and nutritional support, we fight stigma and ensure our members live healthy, empowered, and fulfilled lives.

03

Menstrual Health & Dignity
Ending Period Poverty

No girl should miss school, and no woman should miss work, because of her period. We distribute free sanitary pads, provide menstrual health education, and fight the stigma surrounding menstruation. By ensuring access to essential hygiene products, we protect dignity, keep girls in school, and empower women to participate fully in their communities without shame or limitation.

04

More Than A Foundaton we are family

"Rafiki" means friend in Swahili. And that is exactly what we are. When a woman loses her partner, or a family faces the stigma of HIV, the resulting poverty and isolation can be devastating. Bella Rafiki Foundation was born from a simple, powerful idea: underprivileged women don’t need pity; they need partnership.

We started as a grassroots self-help group in Nairobi, and today, we are a registered foundation transforming vulnerability into strength, one woman and one girl at a time.

How We Work

At Bella Rafiki Foundation, we believe in sustainable, community-driven solutions that empower rather than create dependency. Our approach combines direct support with capacity building, starting with listening to the unique needs of each woman and girl we serve. We identify beneficiaries through community outreach and partnerships with local leaders, then conduct comprehensive assessments to understand their specific challenges and aspirations. From there, we provide tailored interventions—whether that’s seed capital for a small business, school fees and mentorship for a young girl, or sanitary products and health education. But our support doesn’t end there. We maintain ongoing mentorship, conduct regular follow-ups, and foster peer support groups where women can share experiences, challenges, and successes. This holistic model ensures that every intervention is dignified, effective, and designed to create lasting independence rather than temporary relief.

Where We Operate

Bella Rafiki Foundation is proudly rooted in Nairobi, Kenya, where we serve vulnerable communities across both urban informal settlements and peri-urban areas where poverty and marginalization are most acute. Our programs currently reach women and children in neighborhoods where widows, single mothers, and people living with HIV face the greatest barriers to economic participation and social inclusion. Through our network of community self-help groups, we maintain a grassroots presence that allows us to identify those in need quickly and respond with culturally sensitive, locally relevant solutions. While our primary focus remains on Nairobi County, we are strategically expanding our reach to neighboring counties where similar challenges exist, with the ultimate vision of creating a replicable model of women’s empowerment that can transform lives across Kenya.

Our Core Values & Why It Matters

Everything we do is anchored in five non-negotiable core values: Dignity, because every person deserves respect regardless of their circumstances; Empathy, because understanding lived experiences drives meaningful solutions; Integrity, because transparency builds trust with our beneficiaries and donors; Inclusion, because no one should be left behind due to gender, health status, or economic position; and Sustainability, because real change must last beyond our direct intervention. These values matter because the challenges facing widows, single mothers, and people living with HIV in Kenya are not just economic—they are deeply social and emotional. When a woman loses her partner or faces health-related stigma, she doesn’t just lose income; she often loses her voice, her confidence, and her place in society. By grounding our work in these values, we ensure that we’re not just addressing symptoms of poverty, but restoring the inherent worth and agency of every individual we serve. This is why our work matters: because when you restore a woman’s dignity and equip her with resources, you don’t change just one life—you transform families, communities, and ultimately, the future of Kenya itself.

Why It Matters
The health of our planet is deeply connected to the health of our communities. By restoring ecosystems and supporting sustainable agriculture, we address food insecurity, climate resilience, and social justice—one project at a time.
